Hybrid Additive Manufacturing of Inconel 718 Superalloy

Owing to the widespread applications of the additive manufacturing (AM) methods for production of metallic parts with a complex geometry, feasible utilization of these methods for mass production in various industries is quite vital. Moreover, due to the existence of defects and anomalies in the powder bed fusion (PBF) and directed energy deposition (DED) methods, the post-processing of fabricated parts might be necessary to improve properties, which is costly and time consuming. A fruitful approach to overcome these shortcomings is the integration of the hybrid manufacturing concept with conventional AM. Accordingly, both mixed and assisted hybrid AM processes are frequently used for fabrication of the Inconel 718 (IN718) nickel-based superalloy parts.
